TERASCALA INTRODUCES PARALLEL FILE SYSTEM APPLIANCE
BASED ON XIOTECH’S PATENTED ISE TECHNOLOGY
DTS 5000 offers unprecedented levels of reliability; system to be demonstrated at SC08 Booth #3226 in the Disruptive Technologies exhibit area
AVON, Mass. – November 11, 2008 – Terascala, Inc., a provider of high throughput, high capacity storage appliances today announced the Terascala™ DTS 5000, the world’s first scalable Lustre™ appliance offering self-enclosed/self healing storage. The DTS 5000 is powered by Xiotech’s Intelligent Storage Element (ISE™) technology and provides a high performance Lustre™ file system storage appliance in an ultra-high reliability system.
The combination of the Terascala technology and the Xiotech ISE technologies produces a stunning 100x increase in storage availability and mean time between service events (MTBSE) compared to conventional disk technology. With the DTS 5000, customers can deploy a Lustre-based appliance capable of handling petabytes of data and expect no service events for at least five years.
“Organizations are increasingly grappling with large data sets of critical information that require high throughput storage combined with maximum levels of reliability,” said Arun Taneja, Founder and Consulting Analyst, Taneja Group. “The Terascala DTS 5000 fills a significant void in the market and addresses the growing concerns of performance environments that are concerned about the availability of large amounts of critical data.”
The DTS 5000 is a fully configured appliance designed to deliver maximum throughput to enable applications to run at peak efficiency. Delivering over 2.4GB/sec from a single, scalable, unit, the DTS 5000 plugs directly into the compute client network and provides an optimized data path from the client network through to the disks within the storage device. The DTS 5000 offers unique hardware configuration options, and comes tuned for both the IOPS-intensive and bandwidth-intensive application environments. Its built-in management system enables the system to be operated and managed by system administrators without extensive storage experience.
Xiotech's patented ISE technology eliminates virtually all disk-related service events, through a combination of preventive and self-healing capabilities, including integration of the ANSI T10 Data Integrity Field (DIF). This means customers never have to worry about data integrity or drive failures — a commitment Xiotech backs with a five-year hardware warranty. ISE technology also overcomes performance issues of traditional data storage systems by tightly integrating drive, enclosure and controller software, and by distributing much of the processing and cache into the enclosure. In addition, ISE technology provides greatly improved and simplified scalability by pooling storage into a singular element that is 20 to 40 times the capacity of a typical disk drive, with the internal processing power and cache needed to handle all drive management functions.
“The demand for extremely robust, file-based storage solutions is exploding as performance-driven computing expands across many organizations,” said Rob Peglar, vice president of technology at Xiotech. “The DTS 5000 pairs Terascala’s proven parallel file-based solution with our game-changing ISE technology to deliver high levels of performance at the application level, along with unprecedented data protection and system reliability.”
“The ISE storage technology by Xiotech is unlike anything else available on the market today,” said Larry Genovesi, president and CEO of Terascala. “By combining ISE and its incredible level of data integrity and high reliability with Terascala’s parallel file system appliance technology, we are able to offer a solution for the performance-based market that doesn’t require making tradeoffs between performance and reliability.”
Pricing and availability is available by contacting Terascala at 508-588-1591. Terascala DTS 5000 will be demonstrated at the SC08 conference the week of November 17th in Austin, Texas.
